I’m running for Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania to make our state’s government more accountable and empathetic to the people we serve. I’m counting on your support to help me in this fight — but first, I want to take a moment to tell you how I got here.

I grew up in a military family. Both of my parents were Lieutenant Colonels in the Army, so I grew up on bases around the country. Every day of my childhood, I knew that my mom was powerful. She’s a nurse by trade and she was often the only female Officer around.

It was only until I moved off base that I saw how differently women were really treated. And as a young, gay man in a state with no representation or civil rights for LGBTQ folks, I quickly realized that in Pennsylvania, if you don’t have a seat at the table, you’re on the menu.

It pissed me off — so I became a civil rights attorney to fight for equality and equity. That brought me to the General Assembly, where I’ve spent the last 10 years trudging through GOP gridlock and obstruction to fight for LGBTQ justice, affordable health care, and good-paying jobs.

But our elected Republican leaders have stacked the cards against us, John. They aren’t in power because they’re popular, but because they gerrymandered themselves into power so they could snuff out the fight for womens’ rights, civil rights for LGBTQ people, racial and ethnic justice, and the right to seek a quality public education.

Republicans didn’t just take control of the General Assembly, they tried to stifle the ideologies that should dominate this state: empathy, responsibility, and justice.

That’s why I’m running for Lieutenant Governor — to oversee the Pennsylvania Senate, fix our broken politics, and chart a new path forward for our state.
