John, Monday is Martin Luther King Day, and Senate leaders are pushing to put landmark voting rights bills on the floor as soon as next week.

Send your senators a quick note here. Tell them you expect them to support every American's equal freedom to vote! » [link removed]

Last Thursday, on the one-year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection, Carrie sent a note about these bills. See below.

John,

Today marks a dark anniversary.

The carnage of that day didn't happen by accident. It was planned and coordinated from the White House and across the country. And the forces behind it are still working to gerrymander our state and deny you your freedom to vote.

We're going to stop them. And we need your help.

This morning, our legal team is wrapping closing arguments in our case against the North Carolina General Assembly's gerrymandered maps. In the U.S. Senate, there are two bills that would represent the biggest boosts to voting freedoms and election safeguards since the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Join us in marking this somber day with action, John. Tell your senators to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act now » [link removed]

These bills would ensure every American's equal freedom to elect leaders of their choice. They would boost civic participation and end practices that hurt voters' confidence in our elections and our system of self-government. They would:

* end partisan gerrymandering starting with the 2022 election
* police dark money by requiring public donor disclosure
* crack down on voter intimidation, deception, and discrimination
* limit states from purging eligible voters from the rolls
* require automatic voter registration, same-day registration, and online registration
* mandate two weeks of early voting
* require no-excuse mail voting, and ballots postmarked by Election Day would count if received within 7 days
* make Election Day a national holiday
* restore voting rights to felons upon release from prison

Without a healthy democracy, we can't have a healthy environment, and there's no better day to make these common-sense reforms a reality.

Take action now » [link removed]

Thanks for rededicating yourself to our democracy,

Carrie Clark, Executive Director
