John,
Like most of you, I’m beyond disgusted with Senator Joe Manchin right now.
Let's just recap where things stand with him as he refuses to support “Build Back Better”:
*
Joe
Manchin
is
against
pulling
American
children
out
of
poverty
with
monthly
advances
on
the
child
tax
credit.

*
Joe
Manchin
is
against
allowing
those
same
children
to
go
to
school
when
they
turn
three.

*
Joe
Manchin
is
against
repairing
our
deteriorating
tunnels,
bridges,
and
roads.

*
Joe
Manchin
is
against
removing
poisonous
lead
from
children's
drinking
water
all
across
the
country.

*
Joe
Manchin
does
not
want
to
see
America
take
any
steps
at
all
to
combat
climate
change.

*
Joe
Manchin
is
vehemently
against
the
idea
of
millions
of
Americans
getting
well-paying
union
jobs
to
support
their
families
and
then
turn
around
and
revive
their
communities.
It seems like if it benefits middle-class or poor Americans, Manchin’s answer is always, “No.”
But wait, there's more!
Now, we find out Joe Manchin is against the coal miners , too . That’s right, the very same coal miners that have made Joe and his family millions of dollars so he can drive that $100,000 Maserati and throw parties on that $700,000 yacht of his.

Now, we learn that there were elements in President Biden's Build Back Better bill that would directly benefit West Virginia coal miners, and guess what? Joe Manchin said “No” to that, too.

Manchin turning his back on coal miners is like Ronald McDonald turning his back on Big Macs – he would be nothing without those two patties and that delicious “secret sauce” (that we all know is really just thousand island dressing).

You be the judge.
Joe Manchin should be forced to look those miners and their families in the eyes and tell them exactly why it is he believes they don't deserve any help.
Joe Manchin keeps using the word “inflation” anytime anyone asks him any question at all regarding Build Back Better and where he stands. But the truth is, inflation rates in the U.S. are actually significantly lower than everywhere else in the world right now.
Look, I get it. The cost of goods have gone up. It’s inconvenient for all of us. But do you know what it means to children living in poverty? It means even less bread and milk for them.
So why add insult to injury by withholding the child tax credit payments that let their parents put more food on the table? Why keep the youngest poor children out of school, where they’d at least get free breakfast and lunch?
What really bothers me not just about Joe Manchin, but the rest of the Republicans – and yes, I’m classifying Manchin as one of them at this point, because he sure as hell isn’t acting like one of us – is they provide zero solutions to America's problems. They use one-liners to say why they are against something, but never say one word about what it is exactly they do stand for or support.

Now, I know Manchin isn’t the only problem here. We also have to deal with Kyrsten Sinema and her tantrum of the week, and 50 Republican Senators who have no interest whatsoever in helping any of us.
They want to maintain the status quo: Make sure the poor stay poor, and the rich get even richer. As long as they do that, those big, fat campaign checks keep flowing in until they move on to a cushy lobbying job and they are set for life.
So what can we do?
There is only one thing we can do, and that’s to vote in more voices that agree with us. We need more people in the Senate who will fight for us, the things we believe in, and frankly, the things we deserve .
Only by expanding the Democratic majority with real fighters for change will we be able to make an end run around obstructionists like Manchin, Sinema and the GQP and start Building Back Better.
Look, we are the only developed country in the world that has these problems.
How dare we call ourselves the greatest nation in the world while we let millions of our children go to sleep hungry at night? While their minds are slowly eaten away by lead poisoning? While they fall further and further behind in learning compared to kids in other developed nations?

Shame on us.
More importantly, shame on Joe Manchin and the GQP for blocking our attempts to make things right.
