John, have you heard the news? MPs voted YES to taking serious action on climate change by passing the Zero Carbon Bill!
This means that New Zealand is going to be doing our bit to address the climate crisis, setting up a Climate Change Commission and enshrining the target of stopping global temperatures rising above 1.5ºC into law.
It’s a historic moment — and it belongs to all of New Zealand. It belongs to Labour supporters who signed our petition and made submissions on the Bill, the students who took to the streets and the parents and teachers and loved ones who joined them, to the business leaders who have stepped up to do things differently, to the farmers who have committed to reducing emissions, and to everyone who called for change. Thanks to all of you, our children and grandchildren will inherit a safer planet.
Thank you to everyone who joined the people-powered movement to pass this vital Bill. It’s your support that got us here.
