I’m writing to follow up on the email/video I sent over the weekend, the one where I said the GQP isn’t going to install Trump as Speaker of the House, that they’re just using that as bait to get his diehard supporters to empty their bank accounts for the midterms. (If you missed it, click here to watch.)
I stand by what I said, it’s all true. But here’s the thing I think some folks are missing – just because Trump isn’t going to be Speaker of the House next year doesn’t mean he’s not still a HUGE THREAT.
He’s got a stranglehold on the GQP, and when he comes back in 2024 to try and retake the White House, they’ll be all-in. He WILL be the nominee, and he WILL win if we don’t start working RIGHT NOW to stop him.
Do you really think Donald Trump is not raising money RIGHT NOW for 2024?
Come on, we all know this jackaloon never gives up, never admits defeat. He may not be a real businessman, but he’s one hell of a con artist. He’s been bankrupted 6 or 7 times, never pays his debts, and still convinces suckers to loan him billions of dollars! He’s managed to convince almost half the country that the freest and fairest election in American history was rigged and stolen by our side!
Trump is still raising record-breaking amounts of money, and if you think he’s not pocketing a huge cut of everything he raises for the GOP for his own political ambitions and his family’s political ambitions, then you don’t know Donald Trump at all.
We Democrats have a bad habit of focusing only on the election that’s immediately in front of us, but the Republicans have been playing the long game. That’s how they’ve managed to take over entire local and state governments right under our noses before we were any the wiser, so you can bet they’ve already laid the groundwork for 2024 and beyond.
How does President Ivanka Trump sound to you? Eric Trump? That’s the direction we’re heading if we don’t wise up and start building up our own bench and our own financial war chest.
Look, I hate to break it to you, but we’re already playing catch-up, three years before the election. It’s time we stopped treating politics like a team sport with a season and an offseason and a championship every two or four years, and realize we’re in a battle for our lives, right here and right now.
To the Republicans, this is WAR. They don’t even try to hide it; all you have to do is listen to what they say on Twitter or Fox News or OAN or at C-PAC.
I’m not saying we need to sell our souls and be just like them in order to win, but we DO need to get a lot more aggressive if we want to compete -- more aggressive with fundraising, messaging, candidate recruitment and everything else. Because right now, it feels like we’re bringing a plastic picnic knife to a gun fight, and the other side is carrying AR-15s.
I hope you grasp the gravity of our situation. If you do, I hope you’ll consider chipping in whatever you can today to help us build up our war chest … not just for the upcoming midterms, but for 2024 and beyond.
