BNC has seven candidates taking on the New York machine. Now, we are challenging the establishment from across the Hudson, too. BNC is proud to announce that Zina Spezakis is joining our slate of northeastern candidates to take on the New Jersey machine!
Zina has a range of experience that brings a unique worldview to the BNC slate. The daughter of parents who immigrated from Greece to start their own deli in New York, Zina’s seen firsthand the struggles migrants overcome to reach their dreams.
Her parents’ dedication to building a small business inspired Zina to seek an education in business, finance, and international relations. She applied her skills for more than two decades on Wall Street, trying to make positive changes from within.
The climate crisis has always been a focus for Zina. She worked at a business that promotes clean, renewable energy. However, she eventually felt like working from the inside wasn’t enough; she wanted to dig into activism. In 2016, she joined the Citizens’ Climate Lobby to fight for legislation to curb carbon emissions.
As a single mother of two, Zina worries about what kind of planet we are leaving for our children. She understands that climate change is a NOW problem impacting lives, particularly in marginalized communities.
She’s running in the 9th district to unseat an establishment Democrat, incumbent Bill Pascrell, who has accepted a whopping $258,000 in corporate donations this cycle alone! Pascrell believes in “access” to healthcare but won’t support Medicare for All; meanwhile, Zina is calling for healthcare to be guaranteed as a human right.
We’re all tired of half measures. That’s why Zina is running. We can’t be passive in our legislation any longer. Lives are at stake.
Please contribute today to help BNC and Zina today. She’s up against the New Jersey machine and she needs our help to win.
