Hello John,
Over the past year, the far-right, 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court has rolled back Americans’ fundamental rights in cases on voting and reproductive freedom. With each decision, the Court has continued to strip away our constitutional rights and further unravel our democracy, a democracy that falls deeper into crisis every day.
But we are not powerless in this fight – and it’s critical that we take action before it’s too late.
Last week, the Congressional Progressive Caucus voted to endorse The Judiciary Act of 2021 — legislation I co-introduced to restore integrity and balance to the Supreme Court by expanding it.
The American people agree. Last September, a poll showed a majority of Americans agree with the statement that Supreme Court expansion is required to protect reproductive freedom.
Since Republicans rushed Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation in 2020, the Court has further gutted the Voting Rights Act by allowing state-level discriminatory voting laws, effectively overturned Roe v. Wade by allowing a Texas abortion ban to remain intact, and ruled against labor unions’ right to organize.
We must fight the ongoing assault on our fundamental rights and do everything in our power to save our democracy. That’s why I will be working tirelessly this year to move this critical legislation forward and restore justice to our nation’s highest court.
With midterms around the corner, it is more urgent than ever that we protect and defend our democracy ahead of this critical election year. Together, we will.
