Hi team,
As many of you already know, the Supreme Court recently heard arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization over a Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks, before most people know they’re pregnant. Pro-life extremists have been trying to chip away at reproductive freedom for decades, but this is the greatest threat yet.
With the additions of justices under Donald Trump, the Supreme Court is now a conservative supermajority. They indicated that not only would they be willing to let Mississippi’s 15-week ban stand, they might also strike down the right to abortion as we know it created by Roe v. Wade.
A dozen states already have trigger laws on the books that would restrict or ban abortion immediately after Roe is dismantled, and more states would quickly follow suit. Even states with strong reproductive rights would be impacted, as many people seeking abortions would be forced to cross state lines and stress provider capacity.
This isn’t the direction our country should be going in. The right to control your own body is fundamental to engaging in life. We need to move to codify reproductive freedom into federal law, appoint judges to recognize bodily autonomy, and elect pro-choice candidates.
I won’t stop fighting for reproductive justice. I hope you stand with me.
