One year ago, the United States was still reeling from the events of America's first presidential coup, led by none other than Donald Trump, encouraged by the Treason Caucus, and enacted by followers of the Big Lie. Despite an insurrection, we recognized the certification of the 2020 presidential election, and it was a testament to the strength of our democracy.

But here's the thing, we can't let our democracy fall into the danger of being overturned ever again. This was the first time in our lives that we saw insurrectionists climb the walls of our Capitol and nearly succeed in reversing a free and fair election.

It is our mission that this will be the last time any American will ever have to witness what we saw last year.

Yesterday, President Biden tweeted:

"Last year, for the first time in our history, a president who just lost an election tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob breached the Capitol. But they failed. And on this day of remembrance we must make sure that such an attack never happens again."

We are grateful to have a president who will not only stand for the American values of justice and accountability, but who will also decisively look to the future and make sure this never happens again. He is right: we must remember January 6 and stand up for our country.
