Today is the first anniversary of the January 6 attack on our Capitol — and our democracy. It’s certainly an emotional day, and my heart breaks for those who continue to heal from the emotional and physical scars inflicted by the violence one year ago.

But as I continue to reflect on what happened on January 6, I also can’t help but feel really angry about where we are one year later.

Donald Trump and the members of Congress who incited the insurrection have not been held accountable. Every day since the deadly mob stormed the Capitol, the GOP has become more extreme, more anti-democratic, and more likely to take back Congress this November.

We need to take action now. Our democracy depends on it.

The events of January 6, in part, inspired BACKROADS PAC and its mission. 75% of the members of Congress who voted to overturn Joe Biden’s victory and spread the Big Lie that led to the insurrection come from districts with rural communities. We are taking these Republicans on by supporting the Democratic candidates running against them.

Republicans are desperate for us to forget what happened last year and the role they played. But we won’t let them succeed. That’s why today, I’m personally asking you to invest in our efforts by giving $5, $10 or more.

Your contributions give me hope that we can stop the extremists that incited the insurrection and protect our democracy for future generations.
