Well, tomorrow is January 6,, and I know we all have the same thing on our minds: One year ago, a mob of GQP thugs stormed the Capitol on direct orders from their defeated and disgraced President, killing 5 people and trying to overturn the freest and fairest election in U.S. history.
I’ll never forget the images from that day, and I’m sure you won’t either. But a year later, are we any closer to making the folks responsible pay for their crimes than we were the day it happened?
Well, Merrick Garland says we are: In his speech today, he said the DOJ has “no higher priority” than to bring the folks who participated in the attempted coup to justice, no matter how high up in the government they might be.
He hinted that the reason we’ve only seen low-level rank-and-file Trump supporters getting wrist slaps and misdemeanors so far is that those smaller cases are the foundation the bigger cases will be built on. He even referenced Watergate, the scandal that brought a president down.
So, what does that all mean? Was Merrick Garland telling us he’s going after Donald Trump?
Well, I don’t know, because here’s the thing about Watergate – Tricky Dick may have resigned in disgrace, but he never went to jail. So if, just like we all suspect, the evidence reveals ex-president Trump was the top crime boss behind the 1/6 riots, will the DOJ have the stomach to prosecute him, let alone lock him up?
I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
One thing is for sure, though – unless they’re caught and brought to justice, criminals ALWAYS return to the scene of the crime. So until we see Donald Trump, his kids, and his Treason Caucus Congressional cronies being perp-walked in handcuffs to their new rooms at Club Fed, we must be vigilant to ensure 1/6 NEVER happens again.
