Today is the anniversary of the eve of the insurrection on the Capitol, John.

The attack on January 6 was planned from the beginning. By January 5, 2021, the made-up militias of deluded citizens and the members of the Treason Caucus were gearing up to execute their plans against our government and defend the Big Lie. No matter the cost.

While supporters of President Trump still contend that there was no indication of violence before the attack, it's clear that these are nothing but lies. These people had been public and blatant about their treason, so much so that on this day last year, several arrests of weapons possessions occurred, and the FBI issued a report warning of an incoming "war" at the Capitol.

There were calls for violence and death across social media, and those who saw the threats were silenced or blocked from taking action by Trump officials. No action was taken, and former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund said his organization was never made aware of the report.

Today represents failure. Failure to recognize clear signs and red flags that littered the web the day before our government would be attacked, failure to stop the January 6 insurrection from happening.

We all know what happened next.

On January 6, we saw these mobilizations birth a violent movement hell-bent on destroying our democracy. The warning signs were there, and they were ignored.
