Detroit DSA is a 1200+ member funded organization. We receive no money from outside sources so we can say things like "Defund the Police" and "Abolish ICE" without losing funding, and we will always act democratically in the interests of our members and the working class! If you're able to, we ask that you make monthly contributions as they more directly benefit our chapter. Thank you for whatever amount you're able to contribute!

According to our records, you are not yet a member. If you're ready to join us in fighting for the working class, go to dsausa.org/join <[link removed]>and join today!

Comrade Friend --

Happy New Year!

Despite the ongoing pandemic, Metro Detroit DSA still had a great 2021 and we're looking forward to continuing to build and fight for a better Detroit and beyond; for everyone, not just Duggan's billionaire buddies.

In 2021, we were one of 85 chapters across the country to rally on May Day for the PRO Act, marched for Palestine, showed up in solidarity in the fight against Line 5, stood with our comrades on strike at Kelloggs and knocked on nearly 13,000 doors through our Detroit For All campaign.

So far in 2022, we're planning on attending the first-ever Socialism in Michigan Summit with other chapters from across the state and we're bringing back our Douglass Debs Dinner. <[link removed]>

This weekend, we're having our General Meeting <[link removed]> on Zoom. We look forward to seeing you there!

Read on for other ways to plug in.

Solidarity forever,

Detroit DSA

Sunday, January 9, 7 PM

Filmed in the coal country of West Virginia, Matewan celebrates labor organizing in the context of a 1920s work stoppage. A labor union organizer comes to an embattled mining community brutally and violently dominated and harassed by the mining company. Come for the live-chat, stay for the discussion afterwards. Open to the public - invite your friends!

🌹 WHAT WE'RE READING 🌹

- Check out this article <[link removed]> giving an in-depth analysis of the recent Lecturers' Employee Organization campaign at the University of Michigan from an organizer's perspective!

"Believe it or not, much of this work was actually fun! It turns out that building collective power at your workplace can be a very invigorating experience."

- Member book review <[link removed]>: In his new book, No Bosses: A New Economy for a Better World, Michael Albert lays out a concrete vision for a new economy called participatory economics (parecon). This vision deserves to be widely recognized as an equitable, liberatory, and practical alternative to capitalism, and in No Bosses, Albert cogently and captivatingly explains why.
