Dear John,

After a difficult year (or two), we all hoped that ringing in this new year would look and feel different. 2021 was an especially challenging year for reproductive freedom and we’re under no illusion about the challenges ahead in 2022. But there is hope, John, and our fundamental freedoms are always worth fighting for.

The stakes couldn’t be higher for the future of abortion rights and access—especially with an anti-choice supermajority on the Supreme Court poised to potentially overturn Roe v. Wade. Despite the challenges and uncertainties of 2021, the year showed us the power of what we can do when we come together.

In 2022 we must remember that we are the majority—and make a New Year’s resolution to act like it! Let’s show our power and make clear that we’re not backing down until every body can make their own decisions about pregnancy and parenting, free from political interference.

To meet this moment, we must act swiftly, boldly, and together to:

1. Elect champions for reproductive freedom who truly represent the 8 in 10 Americans that support the legal right to abortion.
Demand that the Senate swiftly pass the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) so that the president can sign this crucial bill into law, safeguarding the legal right to abortion throughout the country.

2. Protect our democracy by doing everything in our power to ensure Congress passes voting rights legislation by any means necessary—because our freedom to vote is fundamental to securing all of our most cherished freedoms.

3. NARAL will continue to work nonstop to keep pressure on the Senate to protect our freedom to vote, safeguard the right to abortion across the country, and secure meaningful paid leave for all workers. And we’re already mobilizing to get out the vote for the 2022 midterms—because the only way to create the future we want is to keep showing up and fighting for it.
