Friends:
I hope you had a safe and healthy holiday with loved ones and friends.
As 2021 comes to a close, I wanted to share my perspective on what we were able to accomplish this year, and what we might expect to happen in 2022.
I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible legislative achievements made in 2021. The American Rescue Plan -- passed with 50 Democratic votes and zero Republican votes, despite the benefits it brings to all Americans -- provided critical stimulus checks to millions of individuals, funded America’s vaccination program, helped reopen schools, lended support for small businesses struggling with the pandemic, and provided tax cuts for families with children.
I’m also proud of the historic infrastructure legislation that we worked so hard to successfully pass, which provided Virginians with $100 million to expand affordable broadband, $7.6 billion for roads and bridges, and $2.7 billion for transit investments -- all while creating millions of good paying jobs across the country. Despite many of our challenges in Congress this year, I’m encouraged that bipartisan legislation is still possible in this country.
While I’m thrilled we were able to pass these critical bills, we know that there’s much more work to be done. I’m going to keep fighting for the provisions of the Build Back Better bill that I have long been championing to support Virginia families: making pre-K universal, expanding affordable access to child care, and boosting job training to help parents get back to work. And I’m going to keep pushing to extend the tax cut for parents that was passed in the American Rescue Plan to combat child poverty. We can't let gridlock or obstruction stand in the way of making progress on these critical issues.
It’s become clear to me that it’s time to reform the rules of the U.S. Senate to reduce gridlock and pass additional meaningful legislation that will better support the families and workers of this country and protect the fundamental right to vote. I’m working with my colleagues to do just that.
I’m hopeful about what 2022 can bring, both in Congress and in the midterm elections -- because it’s clearer than ever before that we need an expanded Democratic majority in both houses of Congress in order to tackle the critical issues facing our country. I plan to do everything I can to support Democrats up for election and re-election in the 2022 elections.
So as we close out the year, I’m humbly asking: Will you make a contribution of whatever amount is meaningful to you to support this work to hold and expand our Democratic majorities? [[link removed]]

I will never stop fighting for a brighter future for the people of our Commonwealth and all across this country. Thanks for fighting alongside me -- and I hope you have a happy and safe New Year.
