Friend-
As we close out 2021, one sentiment
I keep hearing from friends and people online is disbelief. Disbelief at everything that's happened
since Joe Biden won last year – from the frenzied illegal efforts to
stop his certification to the frenzied mob that attacked our Capitol
on January 6th.
The thing is, at The Lincoln
Project we’re never really that surprised, because we ask – what’s the
worst that could happen? – and then assume even worse. Our reaction is
not disbelief. The other side is openly stating what they are doing.
We can never let lack of imagination cloud our vision. Consider
this:
A year ago, Trump's cadre of
insurrectionist plotters were getting a PowerPoint ready to explain
the "legal" ways they could launch their coup. Bannon, Eastman, and
Rudy were getting a reservation at the Willard. They put it all on
paper. How many members of Congress do you think saw that PowerPoint?
No wonder they’re all running from the January 6th
commission.
And on the Hill, it was even worse.
The members of Congress we now know were part of 1/6 were organizing
tours for the mob.
Now we know that the events of
January 6th were just practice.
We have to make this real. As we
close out 2021, it’s become clear. Too many of our fellow Americans
don’t realize the threat. Many more don’t want to. This isn’t alarmism
– what we’re ringing alarm bells about is out there in plain
sight.
If you have any doubt about what
The Lincoln Project has to do, watch Fight. Watch The
Mission.
There is work to be done around
every corner. We have to take on the disinformation and outrage
machine that the GOP has spent 40 years building. That means taking on
Fox News and working hard on social media to spread the truth. We have
to make sure they don’t stop anyone from voting. That means all of us
have to get involved in our local precincts and make sure everyone who
wants to vote can vote. And we can’t let them stack the deck in
elections – rigging things like electoral certification or even just
counting votes. That means winning targeted races around the
country.
In the next few days you’ll hear
from the other voices behind The Lincoln Project – showing what we’ve
done this year and what we still have yet to do for 2022. For now, I
know you’ve already pitched in to help this year. You know the
mission.
In
the next few days you’ll hear from the other voices behind The Lincoln
Project – showing what we’ve done this year and what we still have yet
to do for 2022. For now, if you haven’t had the chance to pitch in and
make sure we are ready for this fight, please consider doing so today.
Your contribution before the end of the year will show the world we’re
ready.
This all goes much deeper than the
events on January 6th, 2021. The rest of the year has shown us
that.
Thank you for keeping us in the
fight.
