NBWA releases Beer Purchasers’ Index for October 2019
The index surveys beer distributors’ purchases across different segments and compares them to previous years. The total beer index rose to 70 for October 2019 from 48 in October 2018. Compared to all October readings over the past five years, this marks the highest reading recorded.
A North Dakota brewery is featuring dogs up for adoption on their beer cans
These rescue dogs are having a hard time getting adopted. But thanks to a local brewery in Fargo, North Dakota, they are now featured on beer cans in hopes to find them a forever home. North Dakota’s independent beer distributors will bring these cans to bars and stores, where hopefully some good-hearted beer drinkers will fall in love with the pups.
Walmart appears to be gaining ground against Amazon
Less shopping is happening on Amazon, and consumers are favoring Walmart, according to a new survey. A majority this year, 55%, said they prefer to shop at Walmart versus Amazon, up from about 47% a year earlier. The percentage of people who favor Amazon has dropped to 45% from about 53% in 2018.
In an industry where consumers increasingly value complex flavor profiles and locally sourced ingredients, small, independent malt producers are gaining traction. This development could lead to even more variety in craft beer.
