If you have been following the events of the last few weeks – especially what is going on in the Senate with Build Back Better and voting rights – you probably have closed out of a news article scratching your head. You are probably wondering – what does it take to make people get it? What does it take to make people realize what we are up against?

The answer to those questions in a nutshell is why I joined The Lincoln Project. There are three things I think The Lincoln Project does better than anybody, and why I am glad to be part of the fight headed into 2022:

1) We define the fight better than anyone. This more than anything is what has been missing from so much of the message this year. The establishment isn't doing it. The media isn't covering it. 

2) We know just how far our opponents will go. Part of why we're never surprised is because we always take the worst case scenario and then imagine – what happens if it's worse than that? 

3) We are laser-focused on the mission. This fight is very simply about defending our democracy. Ensuring that it survives and not letting the Trumpist mob destroy it. And not letting anyone stand idly by while it happens.

This is all of our fight now. It’s why I, after decades taking on the Republicans in campaign after campaign, have joined forces with the former Republicans helming The Lincoln Project. We all get the fight. It's not Democrat vs Republican anymore because the "old" GOP is gone. Anyone assuming that the Republican Party has an ounce of goodwill left – assuming they are willing to find common ground on literally anything – is dangerously mistaken.

You reading this email understand this. The millions supporting The Lincoln Project understand this. But it's not enough. Over 40% of Democrats don't believe our democracy is in peril. Who is beating the drum on this besides us? And on the other side, you know everyone still siding with the Republicans is actively working to imperil it.

We have a tough fight ahead in 2022. Democrats will need a major momentum shift to hold the House. That's why we are working so hard to build a special fund to help make sure they do it. As Stuart pointed out yesterday over 60,000 of you have pitched in to help. It's a hell of a start, but we have more work to do.

Please, before 2021 is over, make sure we're ready for the fight to come. We are spending every day growing The Lincoln Project so that all of us can help spread the word. Are you with us?

We have to make this fight real. Make people realize this isn’t about waiting for some magical bill to come through and fix our problems. There are 50 Senate Republicans lined up in lockstep preventing that from happening. And a vocal minority in the House ready to sabotage whatever is left of President Biden’s agenda if they take back the majority in 2022.
