John,

We have to fight for every dollar of funding for housing, education, health care, and taking on climate change. But this month, the House approved $768 billion in annual military spending.

Here’s the bottom line: Investments in our people and communities should come before excessive military spending. Yet, a bipartisan majority in Congress just voted to INCREASE defense spending to an amount that is more than Donald Trump’s last Pentagon budget.

This is completely unacceptable — especially as so many continue to struggle without health care, child care, affordable housing, and fully funded schools. Add your name to demand that Congress prioritize investing in our people instead of a bloated Pentagon budget.

Here’s another bottom line: We don’t need to give the military MORE money than we gave to it under Trump. Part of undoing the damage Trump did in office is spending our energy and federal dollars battling climate change, strengthening the social safety net, and expanding health care. Congress should not be wasting money on military bloat.

That’s why I’ve championed a 10 percent cut to military spending AND fought so hard to invest in health care, education, paid leave, housing, and the fight against climate change in the Build Back Better Act.

If you’re with me FOR investments in the people and AGAINST excessive spending on defense contractors and the military, add your name to our petition. It is past time that we cut our massive military budget in favor of people-first policies.
