We are proud to announce our official endorsement of Amy Vilela for Congress in Nevada’s 1st District!

Amy knows firsthand the challenges many families face. She was born into poverty, became a single mother of bi-racical children, survived off food stamps, and was the first in her family to graduate from college while working multiple day jobs.

You may have heard the story of Amy’s daughter, Shalynne, who died at the hands of our nation’s profit-driven healthcare system after she was denied care because she couldn’t provide adequate proof of insurance at a local emergency room. Her daughter’s tragic death was a product of a broken system. Her story is all too relatable for low-income families struggling with medical bills. Live saving treatment should not be a privilege.

Since then, Amy has given everything she has to the political revolution.

Between engaging progressive women to run for office and helping Sanders’ 2020 Nevada Caucus victory, she’s proven her dedication to the cause. She continues to help organize her community, made up of working class and immigrant people. Amy is ready to take on an established Democrat because she knows her party deserves better.

Her platform is built of progressive solutions -- both in Las Vegas and across the country. She will fight to stop climate change, for immigrant solutions, better education, stronger jobs and wages while improving the economy. She fights on her belief that housing is a human right, that our justice system is broken and needs to be reformed, and that healthcare should not be driven by profit. She believes in science and that this pandemic is affecting low-income communities and people or color the most.

We need leaders like Amy, who believe that solutions in our country need to evolve and grow in order to help everyone. Her campaign needs our help and momentum to create this change.
