John,
Last week, I joined my colleagues on Capitol Hill to call on the Senate to deliver a permanent pathway to citizenship for immigrants in the Build Back Better Act – and to overrule the advisory opinion of the Senate parliamentarian.
In November, the House passed this historic bill, which includes provisions that will improve the lives of so many Americans — but it currently only provides temporary relief for undocumented immigrants, and even those modest provisions are in doubt based on the parliamentarian’s ruling yesterday.
Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status holders, and millions of essential immigrant workers enrich our communities and have earned protection from threats of deportation.
For decades, Democrats have promised to deliver bold immigration reform — and right now is our moment to follow through and provide immigrant communities with the opportunity to succeed.
As we get closer to getting this bill signed into law, I hope the Senate will deliver and ensure none of our friends, families, and neighbors are left behind.
This is the right thing to do, and securing immigrants’ pathway to citizenship is also critical to America’s rich and innovative culture and economic success.
Onwards,
Mondaire
