Yesterday we had a big win. A federal judge has overturned the bankruptcy deal that would have granted the Sackler family, the owners of Purdue Pharma, a lifetime legal shield from their role fueling the opioid epidemic.
This is a huge victory for thousands of Washingtonians, and communities across the nation, who have been devastated by the opioid epidemic.
A legal shield for the Sacklers is an abuse of the bankruptcy process — and a blatant attempt to avoid true responsibility and keep their billionaire status.
