NRDC Action Fund Supporter,
Today, President Trump officially announced what we've known was coming
... that he is formally withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris climate
agreement.
By officially abandoning the landmark international pact to drastically
cut global carbon emissions, Trump is taking his most dramatic step yet
down the road to climate catastrophe. But we don't have to accept this
attack on our future.
Trump's withdrawal won't legally go into effect until one year from today
— in other words, after we've already elected the next president of the
United States.
Then, once in office, the next president can notify the U.N. that she or
he wants to reverse Trump's terrible decision, and 30 days later, the U.S.
officially rejoins the Paris Agreement.
That means that we can still undo this damage — if we beat Trump on
Election Day, 2020.
This fight is so important that we're extending our Environmental Victory
Drive campaign until midnight tonight.
[ [link removed] ]Please rush an emergency gift right now to help defeat Trump in 2020
and replace him with a president who will recommit our country to fighting
the climate crisis. All gifts made until midnight tonight will be matched,
$1-for-$1, up to $60,000 — doubling your impact at this urgent moment.
If the
U.S. truly abandons the historic agreement signed by nearly every nation
on earth, it will thwart critical environmental progress both here in this
country and worldwide — and will further undermine our nation's
credibility on the international stage.
People across America understand that when we withdraw from the Paris
Agreement, we ignore our fundamental obligation to leave our children a
livable planet. That's why an incredible 71% of Americans, including 57%
of Republicans, support the U.S. staying committed to the treaty.
But Trump doesn't care what we think — so we need to double down on our
efforts to organize and mobilize voters so that we can elect a leader who
will heed the voices of the American people and take the bold climate
action we desperately need.
[ [link removed] ]We need you with us: Help us build a political war chest to unseat
Trump and elect a pro-environment president who will undo this reckless
decision on their first day in office.
We've already started: running hard-hitting ads in key states, launching
local grassroots campaigns to spread the word about pro-environment
candidates, and doing targeted voter outreach to get more climate voters
to the polls.
At the same time, [ [link removed] ]your urgent gift will help us fight back against the
Trump administration's other assaults on our environmental protections,
support key legislation in Congress that will help defend our climate,
air, water, and imperiled wildlife, and demand a clean energy future for
the next generation of Americans.
So thanks, as always, for fighting with us.
Sincerely,
[1]Kevin
