Gwynne announces exciting tree planting planned for the Tame Valley
Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, has highlighted an exciting tree planting programme taking place in the Tame Valley to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
In Denton and Reddish, 20% of residents live within 500 metres of woodland. However, the constituency only has 5.2% overall tree coverage. Denton and Reddish residents also breathe in some of the worst air quality in Greater Manchester and England.
Gwynne has called tree planting ‘essential’ in helping people across the constituency live happier and healthier lives, and announced an upcoming tree planting programme to coincide with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Gwynne revealed that over 1,000 trees will be donated by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester to be planted in the Tame Valley, and that Friends of the Tame Valley will assist with the planting initiative.
Friends of the Tame Valley is a community group which was set up last year. Since their inception, the group have organised regular litter picks, raised money for vital valley maintenance, and tackled the growth of invasive weed species. Gwynne acts as Secretary of the group, which is made up entirely of volunteers.
Gwynne has long been an advocate for tree planting, and last week met with representatives of the Woodland Trust to support a new community tree planting programme being organised by the charity.

I am also very excited to announce that the Tame Valley will be receiving a gift of over 1,000 trees to mark the Queens Platinum Jubilee, and that the fantastic volunteers that make up Friends of the Tame Valley will be able to play their part in this fantastic planting programme.
I love our green spaces, and think they should be protected and enhanced so that local people can lead happier and healthier lives. It’s such a brilliant idea to mark the Queen’s historic Diamond Jubilee with this unprecedented gift to our local community.
