I'm thrilled to announce that Texans Care for Children will honor Ms. Jacquie Porter and Dr. David Lakey at our 2020 Founder's Award Luncheon! 

Be sure to mark your calendars and join us on March 5 in downtown Austin for this special event as we connect with other children's advocates, reflect on how much we've accomplished with you over the past year, and celebrate our honorees and their dedication to serving Texas children and their families.

Ms. Porter is a children's early education champion. She serves as the Statewide Director of Early Childhood for the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Whether through reading initiatives, implementing high-quality full day pre-k, or engaging families with their child's early education, Porter has dedicated herself to children across Texas. Prior to her role at TEA, Ms. Porter served as the Director of Early Childhood for the Austin Independent School District for over 9 years and taught multiple levels in early childhood.

Dr. Lakey is a dedicated children's and maternal health champion. He serves as Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at The University of Texas System, where he works to improve a viarety of population health issues in Texas. Dr. Lakey also serves as executive sponsor for both the Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers and Babies and the Texas Health Improvement Network, as well as the presiding officer of the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium. Dr. Lakey was the Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services from 2007 to 2015.
