Our justice system is failing the people of Texas and Women’s Rights are at stake.

This decision gives people the ability to sue abortion clinis and anyone who “aides or abets” an abortion performed after an active heartbeat is detected. This is typically around six weeks of pregnancy - the moment most women find out they are pregnant.

Potentially overturning the 50-year-old ruling of Roe v. Wade is like taking 1,000 steps back for women in our country. Lawmakers today are more concerned with controlling women than they are about the actual children being born. The GOP cares about embryos. Not lives.

And we’ve said it once and we will say it again. Abortion bans are f*cking racist.

These laws ultimately affect low-income brown women more than anyone else. These groups of women have less access to safe healthcare and cannot afford the extreme costs of childcare. When have we ever seen these pieces of legislation followed by efforts to reform our foster care and adoption system?

It makes us sick.

We don’t have time to sit around and wait for other states to follow in Texas and Ohio’s footsteps. We know that is coming. And we will not let it happen. We will elect progressives who will fight for women’s reproductive rights and stand up against GOP dictators.
