Hey John,
This past weekend, states across the midwest and southern US were hit by massive tornadoes, including Kentucky— a hometown of one of our Network Members and staff. There were dozens of tornadoes that hit states throughout the weekend which some news outlets are saying are “unusual outbreaks” but it’s not so unusual when you work in the climate movement and know these types of stories all too well.
When you hear of Amazon employees being killed by the storms, be it because of constant climate catastrophes, poor infrastructure and/or because of a nation that prioritizes labor over safety, we can’t help but think about our role in the movement and how we have to continue to support one another among the injustices so many folks face.
There are already many mutual aid and relief resources doing work in response to the tornadoes that could use your support:
>> WKY Relief and Assistance
>> BG, Mayfield, WKY Care
>> Mutual aid listings for those in western Kentucky affected by the tornadoes
>> Kentucky Student Environmental Network’s rapid response network
>> Southeast Climate & Energy Network’s disaster preparedness
I encourage you to support the above efforts in whatever way you can and research and amplify other organizations and folks collecting donations to help folks on the ground.
