We’re absolutely thrilled to announce our official endorsement of Claudia Zapata for Congress in Texas’ 21st District!

Claudia represents true Texan values of family and community. Growing up as a daughter of working-class Tejanos, she saw firsthand the hard work her parents and grandparents put in to make ends meet. At a young age, Claudia would pick citrus on her family’s farm, assist her grandpa in hospice, and even clean toilets at the University of Texas-Austin -- where she would later graduate from.

Having lived in both rural and metropolitan neighborhoods, she has seen how the lack of an inclusive government too often leaves rural and low-income Texans behind. Small businesses have gone under, farm owners and field workers have been displaced by large multi-million dollar corporations, and neighborhoods keep expanding without infrastructure to support this growth.

When the power grid system failed her small community, she helped provide families and individuals with essential resources while they were living without access to water and food for weeks, miles from the nearest hospitals and grocery stores. She has watched as her district has suffered and even lost lives because their government had failed them — choosing corporate greed over Texas civilians.

Claudia has the lived experiences of the underserved working-class people in Texas. She’s witnessed the severe neglect and hurt of poor government, but that’s also why she has faith in the positive impact that the right type of leadership can have.

That’s why she’s determined to represent working Texans in Congress and break the socioeconomic barriers in her community. Claudia is ready to change the narrative and set equitable standards for ALL cities and neighborhoods in TX-30, regardless of size. She’s fighting for affordable housing, universal healthcare, clean and safe environments, an increase in minimum wage, good public schools, and more.
