Dear John,

Yesterday, the Biden Administration announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Since 2019, Emgage Action has pressured the International Olympic Committee, Congress, and the broader international community to boycott the 2022 Winter Games over the Chinese government’s mass detention and repression of Uyghur Muslims and other ethnic minorities.

Hosting the Olympics comes with the responsibility to build and support a global community where all people, regardless of race, religion, or national origin, are afforded the same rights and opportunities to live in security and dignity. We have a moral obligation to speak out against these gross violations, and not allow violators to host an event that symbolizes the preservation of human dignity.

The Chinese government has systematically violated the human rights and freedom of over one million Uyghurs in a campaign of ethnic genocide. Credible reports point to a systematic campaign that includes the arbitrary detention of over one million people who have been forced to renounce their faith and culture. This is why Emgage Action has consistently called for action through the Uyghur Human Rights Act, Uyghur Forced Labor Act, Uyghur Genocide Determination, and calling for the boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

We welcome the Biden administration’s decision for a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics and continue to urge our elected officials to take action against the horrific human rights abuses in China.

Dear Emgage advocates, you're invited to our biggest event this year!

In 2006, a handful of community members came together and decided to start an organization with a monumental vision: to build political power for Muslim American communities.

Fifteen years later, Emgage has grown from a local organization to a national institution headquartered in Washington, D.C. with chapters in six states: Florida, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.

On December 19th, we'll be celebrating Emgage's 15th anniversary by bringing together elected officials and community members to discuss:

  • advancements in civic engagement the Muslim American community has made over the past few years
  • Emgage's 2022 plan to Get Out The Vote (GOTV) in preparation for the 2022 midterm elections
  • the importance of consistent civic engagement in ensuring that Muslim American issues remain centerstage
