What's happening, John? I'm forwarding you the video email I sent out earlier this week because I still cannot wrap my head around what's happening with abortion rights, and I want to share more thoughts with you.
The brave women of NDLB sent you a long and thoughtful email yesterday that was sincere and from their hearts. I hope you didn't ignore it because their voices are absolutely critical to this conversation. They are the ones who will be personally impacted by this court decision. (Let me know if you need me to resend their letter to you.)
In their note, they talked about how Trump intentionally threatened abortion rights by packing the Supreme Court, and I couldn't agree more. But we, the American people, are also to blame.
Here's how I see it all:
- First, we elected Donald Trump.
- Then, he appointed sexual predator Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
- Next, RBG's last dying wish was that her seat not be filled until the elected president was confirmed. None of us should have been surprised that Trump ignored this request.
- Immediately after, he appointed far-right anti-abortionist Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
- Now, conservatives hold a strong 6-3 majority in the highest court of the land, where Roe v. Wade was set into law -- and where Roe v. Wade can become undone.
Read that first bullet again. Although we don't directly decide who serves on the Supreme Court, WE DID THIS by allowing Trump to gain that power in the first place.
But it also means that the WE THE PEOPLE have the power to influence change. The power to make our voices heard. The power to vote and elect representatives who will fight for reproductive justice and ensure that women have the right to choose what they do with their own bodies.
Today, I'm calling on YOU, John, to put that power to use and help No Dem Left Behind elect pro-choice Democratic leaders who will put an end to the GQP anti-choice agenda. Take action and take power back by pitching in right now.

This is why in West Virginia, we always say that we LOVE Mississippi -- because if it weren't for them, we'd be 50th in everything.
But in all seriousness, these out-of-touch states are out-of-control with their right-wing garbage. Women in rural states and rural districts across the country are living in fear as old white men dictate their futures.
If the conservative-majority SCOTUS rules in favor of Mississippi's archaic abortion ban, it's going to set a dangerous precedent for dozens of Republican-controlled states in their attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade.
It's completely ridiculous that this threat is happening when it's almost 2022, but it's VERY real. We MUST fight back. At NDLB, we will do that by running and electing candidates in every state who will defend the fundamental RIGHT TO CHOOSE.
