[2]National Nurses United

My name is Pam Darpel. I’m a proud NNU retiree member, and I worked as a
registered nurse for 42 years before I retired.

I saw a lot in my time as an RN. And I saw firsthand over the years how
large corporations took over our health care system more and more, and CVS
Health is no exception.

When CVS Health decided to donate $5 million to the largest anti-Medicare
for All dark money lobbying group, I – along with hundreds of other
volunteers and nurses – got to work.

From Honolulu to Houston, our movement has taken on the fourth largest
corporation in the country to demand that they stop funding anti-Medicare
for All efforts.

Together in September and October we visited nearly 400 CVS stores in 27
states and taped a CVS style receipt on the doors with the names of tens
of thousands of people supporting our campaign. I visited 17 stores myself
to make sure CVS heard our message.

CVS has been put on notice. We do not trust them with our health care, and
we will not allow them to get in the way of our movement for true health
care justice.

Stay tuned for our next actions and for some exciting plans in the new
year. In the meantime, we need help getting more people involved and aware
of CVS’ actions to block health care reform:

We know that Medicare for All would save the public $300 billion a year on
prescription drugs alone, and with CVS taking in 25% of prescription drug
revenue nationwide, Medicare for All would hit CVS’ bottom line by helping
people get the care they need.

The big corporations like CVS Health are opposed to any fixes for our
broken system because they benefit from it being broken, and because they
have their own dark vision for the direction health care should go in.

We know that in order to win, we need to directly take on the health care
corporations that are trying to stop us.

CVS is not our only target – it’s just one part of our bigger plan to win
Medicare for All. We will continue to take on the dark money lobbying
group that CVS supported with its $5 million donation – the Partnership
for America’s Health Care Future – in addition to members of Congress that
have yet to cosponsor Medicare for All in Congress.

We know that companies motivated by profit will never be a match for
nurses motivated by care. We know that corporations have money, but that
we have people. And we believe that we will win.

stay tuned for what’s next.

In solidarity,

Pam Darpel, RN
