Operation Turkey was a Success!

Thanks to the generous support of our donors and sponsors, as well as the dedication of our volunteers, we were able to provide meals to families in the Greater Prince William area to ensure they could join in the festivities of the season.

Community organizations, local businesses, kids, individuals, and families stopped by throughout donation day to drop off non-perishable items. Members from the NVFS Board and Leaderhip Team joined our volunteers to help sort those incoming donations.

The next day Washington Football Team's Tim Settle joined us again to help out NVFS and the community. Settle and other dedicated volunteers packed the donated food into festive red bags provided by our sponsors. <[link removed]> These bags were then distributed to families in need.

We are truly grateful for such a generous community. Your donations, your time, and your support not only helps families survive, but thrive!

The 2021 CARE Awards Honors Companies Closing Access Gaps

This year, we recognized the 19 CARE winners <[link removed]> who are making our region the best place to live, work, and thrive. Our keynote speaker for the event was Dr. C. Nicole Mason <[link removed]>, President & CEO of the Institute for Women's Policy Research. Her enlightening presentation addressed the term "she-cession," which she coined to describe the disproportionate impact of the employment and income losses on women at the start of the pandemic. She also highlighted ways that COVID may have prompted the necessary workplace flexibilities to allow for more women— particularly those who experience socio-economic disparities— to advance professionally.

If you didn’t get to attend the NVFS Care Awards webinar on November 16, you can view it now on our YouTube <[link removed]> channel. For more information about the CARE Awards, please contact Sara Kreitzer <mailto:[email protected]>.

Gifting for Families

Holidays are particularly difficult for families experiencing poverty. Parents take joy in giving their children gifts at the holidays, but unfortunately often have to make a choice between gifts and groceries or other household necessities. Gifting for Families <[link removed]> ensures these parents will be able to give their children gifts without further stretching their budgets. Can you donate a toy or gift card this year for a child in our ccommunity? If so, please check out our toy list <[link removed]>, shop our wishlist <[link removed]>, or give online <[link removed]>.
