Policy update
On Oct. 30, AEE's General Counsel and Managing Director Jeff Dennis testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce Energy Subcommittee. His submitted written testimony summarizes the challenges facing advanced energy technologies to compete based on price and performance, and highlights opportunities for lawmakers and regulators to remove market barriers. Advanced energy technologies are now the most cost-effective resources on the electricity grid. These technologies are providing cost savings for electricity consumers and enhanced grid reliability and resilience, all while supporting millions of American jobs and reducing carbon emissions. AEE applauds the State Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee's unanimous passage of SB 596, the Pennsylvania Clean Transportation Infrastructure Act. The bipartisan bill sets a 2030 goal for electric vehicle (EV) deployment in the state that is at least 50% higher than current market forecasts, establishes a system for determining the charging infrastructure required to support those goals, and lays out a process for utility EV programs to be evaluated by the Public Utility Commission. "Senate Bill 596 removes significant hurdles to growth across the state's electric vehicle supply chain and puts Pennsylvania in a position to benefit from the rapidly growing electric vehicle market," said Matt Stanberry, managing director at AEE. "It is a comprehensive plan that will drive private investment benefitting both rural and urban areas of the Commonwealth." Click here to continue reading the press release.>

Throughout the West there is a bold vision from elected officials, advanced energy companies, and utilities of a 100% clean energy future. But what’s the path to 100% clean energy in the West? On October 16-17, in Scottsdale, AZ, AEE convened leaders in energy innovation, business, and government from across the western region to identify ways to achieve this goal, state by state and through a regional grid, powered by advanced energy growth from New Mexico to Washington state. It was a fitting focus for our first regional policy conference for states from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, Advanced Energy Now | West. Click here to continue reading the blog post.>

Richmond Times-Dispatch published a co-authored opinion piece by Virginia AEE's Harrison Godfrey and The Greenlink Group's Matthew Cox detailing how the Commonwealth could meet Gov. Northam's 100% clean energy goal while saving customers money and creating positive economic impact. "Change versus more of the same. It is the fundamental question underlying every election. This November, as Virginians go to the polls, it is more true than ever. The delegates and senators who gather in Richmond in January will have the opportunity to turn the page on a variety of policies. We urge them to start with Virginia’s energy policies, where the benefits of change and the costs of staying the same are clear. Last month, Gov. Ralph Northam signed an executive order establishing a goal of a 100% clean electricity for Virginia by 2050." Click here to continue reading the opinion piece.>
