Dear John,

Lillian’s List Foundation envisions a time when women are consistently the majority of all elected officials in North Carolina. And we are so proud of the female legislators currently serving in the General Assembly.

To help amplify the work of these amazing women, we are highlighting one each week in our #WomanCrushWednesday feature. This week, our #WomanCrush is Senator Gladys Robinson!

FAST FACTS

Name: Gladys Robinson
District: 28 (Guilford)
In office since: 2011
Key Committees: Appropriations - Health & Human Services; Appropriations - Base Budget; Commerce & Insurance; Education/Higher Education; Finance; Healthcare
Previous career: Non-profit executive

FEATURED BILL: HEALTHY FAMILIES & WORKPLACES / PAID SICK DAYS

Nearly 40 percent of private-sector workers in North Carolina are currently denied access to any paid sick leave [[link removed]] to care for their or their family's health needs.

That's why Sen. Robinson, along with her colleagues in the House, Reps. Fisher, Smith, Harrison, and Brown, introduced the Healthy Families & Workplaces / Paid Sick Days [[link removed]] bill this April.

The bill [[link removed]] would allow employees to accrue paid sick time from the beginning of employment, at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked. Employees would be eligible to use the paid leave to care for themselves or an immediate family member who is experiencing illness, injury, or domestic or sexual violence.

Women who work in high-contact industries with the most exposure to contagious illnesses, like child care, senior care, and the food industry, are often the ones with the least access [[link removed]] to paid sick leave. Ensuring everyone has access to paid sick leave means healthier families, workplaces, and communities.

In solidarity,
