Hello friend,
Since January, 19 states have passed laws making it harder to vote. Republican-led legislatures across our country are undermining our democracy and disenfranchising millions of Americans by obstructing their fundamental right to vote.
Black and brown folks in Southern states have been disproportionately targeted by these restrictive voting laws as legislatures have limited their ability to vote by mail, cut early voting hours, and criminalized the act of simply handing out water to voters waiting in long lines. In Florida, one million formerly incarcerated persons must pay a poll tax in order to vote.
No government should deny its citizens access to the ballot — that’s why I’m calling on the Senate to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and put an end to voter suppression.
The Freedom to Vote Act is critical legislation that will implement automatic and same-day voter registration, stop partisan gerrymandering, make Election Day a federal holiday, require at least 15 consecutive days of early voting, and so much more.
I’m proud to have both the Right to Vote Act, which I introduced with Senator Jon Ossoff and the Preventing Election Subversion Act, which I co-lead, included in the Freedom to Vote Act.
Thank you for your help in this fight,
