House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spent months telling the American people that House Democrats would never pursue a “divisive” impeachment effort unless it had overwhelming bipartisan support. Not only did zero Republicans support today’s impeachment inquiry resolution, but two Democrats ended up voting in opposition.
 
Pelosi and her top lieutenants are on record repeatedly emphasizing the importance of bipartisan support for a potential impeachment inquiry:
Nancy Pelosi: “Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”
 
Adam Schiff: “If the evidence isn’t sufficient to win bipartisan support for this, putting the country through a failed impeachment isn’t a good idea.”
 
Jerry Nadler: “She laid down a number of conditions — it has got to be bipartisan, the evidence has to be overwhelming — which is what I’ve been saying.”

Those statements expose the blatant hypocrisy of their actions.
 
House Democrats have lost all credibility on this issue, and the hypocrisy of their partisan impeachment inquiry is on full display for the American people.
