John -
Moments ago, news broke that President Biden has renominated Jerome Powell
as chair of the Federal Reserve. This decision confirms what I feared the
   most.
Biden is NOT the climate president he claims to be. Here's what I mean:
Biden's decision to ignore the leading voices in economics, members of
Congress, and — most importantly — tens of thousands of supporters who
called on his administration to nominate a true climate
   leader is a
blatant disregard for our mandate to shift the economy and keep warming
   below 1.5 degrees.
I'm angry, John. But I refuse to
   give up hope:
We have a few short weeks left until the Senate Finance Committee votes on
Powell’s renomination. Between now and then, we need to mobilize our
climate movement and call on the US Senate to do what is right for our
communities and our planet. But it's going to take a tremendous amount of
   resources to make it happen:

mobilize local groups and climate activists around the country to demand a
real climate leader be nominated as Chair of the Federal Reserve?
   John, Jerome Powell's
hesitancy to even acknowledge the many ways the Federal Reserve can
account for climate risk is in direct opposition to the claims made by the
White House, and makes him the wrong choice for this position.
The International Energy Agency and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change have been crystal clear: we cannot finance any new fossil fuels —
full stop. And we need to quickly wind down existing fossil fuel projects.
That's why we set our target on the Federal Reserve.
We're hoping for a large number of individual contributions today to help
us mobilize climate activists around the country to call on the US Senate
   to block Powell's nomination. I'm
really hoping I can count on you today:

   John, we
launched the Fossil Free Federal Reserve campaign because demystifying the
role of this vital financial institution and engaging everyday people to
stop the flow of funds to fossil fuels is crucial to stop the worst
   effects of the climate crisis.
And even though I'm angry today, I am endlessly inspired by the thousands
of you who have donated to help us lift this campaign off the ground and
tackle the world's largest and most powerful financial regulators.
I want to say thank you again for taking a moment to read this email, and
thank you for chipping in today to help us move our campaign into its next
   phase.
Together, we will put an end to fossil fuel finance and grow our
multi-generational, multi-racial movement to push the Federal Reserve to
account for climate risk and end fossil fuel finance.
