Dear Friends and Allies,
Today marks the end of Transgender Awareness Week, but it’s not the end of the fight for transgender and non-binary people who deserve to feel safe, accepted, respected, empowered, and seen in a country and world that is dominated by patriarchy.
This week past week, we honored people who are no longer with us on Transgender Day of Remembrance (November 20th), and we reflected on our country’s history of ignoring victims whose lives are taken in acts of transphobic-violence.
We feel fortunate to learn from transgender leaders who are paving the way for a more inclusive country for our transgender friends and family. Every year, we strive to do better at uplifting these voices. Although we strive to create a safe space within our progressive community, we must continue to educate ourselves as an organization, and find ways to be better allies in our personal lives.
For those who do not identify as transgender or non-binary, we encourage you continue supporting policies and promoting values that will help us bend the arc towards justice, equality, and inclusion.
To those who identify as transgender or non-binary: we are listening.
