We did it.

Today, House progressives succeeded in passing the historic, life-changing investments in the American people contained in the Build Back Better Act — over the objections of conservative obstructionists, who were fine with not passing the bill at all.

Through our successful strategy of insisting on passing both of President Biden’s economic bills — the bipartisan infrastructure bill for roads and bridges and the Build Back Better Act for working families — House progressives helped President Biden keep his promise to the American people. His presidency will be much stronger for it.

This historic legislation will provide some of the greatest investments in the American people that we have ever seen.

I’m particularly excited that this bill includes provisions I championed such as ensuring high-quality, universal child care, expanding Medicare and Medicaid, cutting the costs of prescription drugs, making historic investments in affordable housing, and addressing climate change with bold action that creates millions of good-paying jobs every year for the next decade.

And there is so much more in this bill. This legislation is critical to Democrats keeping their majority in next year’s elections.

As someone who grew up in Section 8 housing and on food stamps, and who went to work with my grandma when day care was too expensive, I know how life-changing the Build Back Better Act will be for working families across America, and I look forward to getting these benefits out to the American people as soon as possible.

Progressives held the line, and we delivered. Now, we have to get this bill passed in the Senate.
