Help Create an Affordable, Equitable, and Inclusive Georgia Avenue

It’s no secret that Ward 1 is home to some of the fastest-gentrifying neighborhoods in the District. In the eastern part of the Ward, I believe we have an opportunity right now to engage in focused and community-led planning to help shape the future of Georgia Avenue before anticipated development projects come to the corridor. This project is meant to bring everyone to the table to help ensure that prosperity lifts everyone up and helps enhance the existing community rather than render it unrecognizable.

Join us to celebrate the kick-off of the Lower Georgia Avenue Equitable Development Project being launched by Councilmember Nadeau, to help create an affordable, equitable, and inclusive Georgia Avenue community.

Launch Event: Lower Georgia Avenue Equitable Development Project

Saturday, November 9, 2019

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Cardozo Education Campus

1200 Clifton Street NW

>>RSVP HERE<<

This is a family-friendly community event for residents, families, local businesses, and other community members to engage in the project's Community Partnership, a forum to ensure the community drives the agenda and re-visioning of Lower Georgia Avenue to create an affordable, equitable, and inclusive Georgia Avenue community.

More about the Project:

The Lower Georgia Avenue corridor (between New Hampshire Ave. NW and Florida Ave. NW) is undergoing a change in its demographics, culture, and built environment. The New Communities Initiative for Park Morton will redevelop two large plots in Pleasant Plains and Park View into mixed-use, mixed-income communities, and will likely be the catalyst for even more change in the near future.

The Lower Georgia Avenue Equitable Development Project aims to look holistically at the resources, concerns, and opportunities in the Pleasant Plains, Park View, and Ledroit Park neighborhoods and convene important stakeholders in the future of the area. The objective is to devise an action plan of policies, programs, and practices that will help ensure a more equitable future for the corridor. A top priority is elevating the voices of residents of color in planning the future of Lower Georgia Avenue.

Councilmember Nadeau is initiating and funding the launch of the Lower Georgia Avenue Equitable Development Project. But given that the aim of the project is to develop community-driven recommendations, Councilmember Nadeau will not unduly influence the outcomes and recommendations of the project and will not be directly engaged in the community-led process. Once the work is complete, it will inform and help guide future legislation the councilmember introduces on housing affordability, small business supports, human services, and more.
