Yesterday, the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (BIF) was signed into law! Here is what we know so far about what this new funding will mean for NY:

*
$8
billion
boost
to
the
long-stalled
Gateway
Project,
which
includes
the
new
Hudson
River
tunnel,
as
well
as
repairs
to
existing
tubes
ravaged
by
Hurricane
Sandy
*
$15
billion
carved
out
within
the
Drinking
Water
State
Revolving
Fund
to
replace
lead
service

*
$10
billion
in

Billions

Working to ensure this influx of new federal infrastructure money is spent smartly on projects that build a more equitable and sustainable city is a top priority for me as the next Comptroller. Help me understand where you’d like BIF money spent in your neighborhood! [[link removed]]

The infrastructure bill is a once in a generation investment in critical infrastructure our country and our communities need to fix aging roads and bridges, modernize our railways, expand internet access, and improve transit. But getting it passed is just the beginning.
Getting these funds out the door and shovels in the ground will take some time — and how we spend the money matters. Will we invest in the resilient infrastructure that we need to prevent future climate disasters? Can we improve contracting and procurement so that projects get done on time and on budget? Do the projects we fund pay their workers a living wage?
Those imperatives will be top of mind for me as I work with local and federal officials to ensure the new funding is spent wisely.
