NARAL Pro-Choice America | Freedom is for EVERY body

As my tenure as NARAL Pro-Choice America’s acting president comes to an end, I want to thank you for your support during the last five months. Time and again, amid ceaseless attacks on the legal right to abortion, you showed up to protect reproductive freedom for every body.

Serving as your acting president has been a privilege and passing the baton to someone as talented and as passionate as Mini Timmaraju is an honor.

On Monday, Mini will make history as the first woman of color to lead NARAL Pro-Choice America as president, and I couldn’t be more thrilled for her leadership.

I have been lucky enough to know Mini since her days on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2016. Here’s why I believe she’s the right leader for NARAL’s next chapter:

Mini is deeply committed to racial and gender justice. Her expertise will help NARAL continue to place anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion at the heart of our work so that we can more effectively live out our values and grow into a more inclusive organization.

Under Mini’s leadership, NARAL will continue to engage in robust ways at the state and federal level to fight back against attacks on reproductive freedom. We will protect and advance reproductive freedom, including access to abortion care and birth control and maternal health and rights. We’ll expose anti-choice extremists hell-bent on controlling and punishing people and hold politicians accountable when they fail to safeguard our freedoms.

And with Mini at the helm, we will be working harder than ever to elect and partner with champions for reproductive freedom at the state and federal levels.

These last several months have energized me and reminded me of the power each of us has—and the power of our collective voice. The 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion aren’t just a statistic—we are an overwhelming majority fighting for a future where reproductive freedom is a reality for every body.
