New Orleans DSA - Update

We are excited to release our 2021 Fall Election Voter Guide! This includes information about the Mayoral race, City Council, and more! Hurricane Ida delayed the elections by five weeks, with state officials voting to make the new election day this Saturday, November 13th. This year has been beset by the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, crumbling infrastructure, and natural and man-made disasters. Head into your polling place informed and check out our Voter Guide Here plus Join us this Friday the 12th at 6pm to celebrate our Voter Guide launch at 12 Mile Limit! Come party with us!

City Council will be hearing the Mayor’s budget this week. They currently have $500k budgeted for eviction defense right to counsel. That's 1/4 of what advocates say is needed to make sure all New Orleanians who face eviction have a lawyer. Please call Council President Helena Moreno (504) 568-2740 and your district council member before Friday, November 12th and tell them we need full funding for this critical program!

From disaster relief to building community, Mutual Aid and Direct Service are crucial to the working class, and can be fun too! We'll be talking about ongoing projects you can get plugged into, what the chapter's disaster response will look like, and more! Here's a When2Meet to decide what day/time is best for the next meeting so we can plan it!

Solidarity,
New Orleans DSA Local Council
