Dear Activist,

Last week, President Biden announced the framework for the Build Back Better Act ([link removed]) , a transformative investment in our climate, care, and kids. Along with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, the Build Back Better Act will create millions of good-paying jobs, reduce expenses for workers and families, and grow an economy that works for everyone.

It’s a BIG DEAL--for our country and our Commonwealth--and we need your help explaining to Bay Staters how this historic bill will benefit them and their families.

So, we’ve put together some Massachusetts-specific information, talking points, and creative assets for you to use on social media. Use this information in emails to your network, as the basis for a letter to the editor, in posts on social media, or in conversations with your friends, family, and neighbors.

Please forward this email to your network and don't hesitate to reach out to me directly at [email protected] about using the guidance below.

Sincerely,

Allison Mitchell

Topline Talking Points
* The President’s Build Back Better framework will:
+ Make life more affordable for middle-class workers and their families – paid for by ensuring the wealthiest pay their fair share.
+ Create jobs to make our economy more resilient to climate change fueled disasters like floods, wildfires, hurricanes, and droughts — saving Americans money and building a cleaner, fairer, and more productive economy.
+ Extend the American Rescue Plan's expanded Child Tax Credit and Earned-Income Tax Credit — benefiting millions and continuing the largest one-year reduction in child poverty in history.
+ Make health care, child care, and caring for elderly Americans more affordable.
* For Massachusetts, the Build Back Better framework delivers:
+ Access to child care for 367,530 young children for families earning under 2.5 times the state median income, ensuring that these families pay no more than 7% of their income on high-quality child care.
+ Free, high-quality preschool for more than 139,520 additional 3- and 4-year-olds per year and an increase in the quality of preschool for children who are already enrolled.
+ The largest effort to combat climate change in American history. From 2010 to 2020, Massachusetts experienced 14 extreme weather events, costing up to $5 billion in damages. The Build Back Better framework sets the United States on course to meet climate targets, build climate resilient infrastructure and industries, and enlist a diverse generation of Bay Staters in a new Civilian Climate Corps.
+ Affordable and accessible post secondary education by increasing maximum Pell Grant awards for nearly 100,000 Massachusetts students and investing in the 26 institutions that historically serve students of color.
+ Investments in training to prepare Massachusetts workers for high-quality jobs in fast-growing sectors like public health, child care, manufacturing, IT, and clean energy, including grants for public community colleges to develop and expand their own programs.
+ Access to free school meals for an additional 121,000 students and resources for 467,710 students to purchase food over the summer.
+ Assistance for Massachusetts renters, 478,000 of which are rent-burdened, and the construction and rehabilitation of over 1 million affordable housing units nationwide.
+ Access to home- and community-based care for more of Massachusetts’ senior citizens and people with disabilities and an improvement in the quality and wages of care-giving jobs.
+ $250 to $300 checks to over 1.1 million eligible Massachusetts families by extending the Child Tax Credit of the American Rescue Plan to help families cover expenses like child care, groceries, or rent.
+ A tax cut of up to $1,500 for nearly 300,000 low-income workers by extending the American Rescue Plan’s Earned Income Tax Credit.
* The framework will reduce the deficit. Build Back Better is paid for by rewarding work, not wealth – and ensuring that the super-wealthy and corporations pay their fair share and can’t cheat on their tax bills. No one making less than $400,000 will have their taxes raised.
* And the president’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal will:
+ Make historic, job-creating investments in our roads and bridges.
+ Connect every American to high speed internet.
+ Stop our children from drinking poisoned water.
+ Make unprecedented gains for our clean energy leadership.
* Together, these historic investments will create jobs, cut costs for families, and keep the economic recovery going.

Ways to Take Action
* Write a letter to the editor highlighting key details in the Build Back Better framework and what they mean for you. (This is also a great opportunity to thank your member of Congress for supporting the framework!) Here are some LTE best practices:
+ Keep it short, around 250 words.
+ Write it in the first person. Personal stories can make your letter more interesting.
+ Make sure the topic of your piece and your opinion is clear. A letter to the editor is more likely to get published if it directly addresses an article, editorial, or column from the last few days.
+ When you're done writing, go to your local paper's website "contact us" page for information on how to submit your piece.
* Post on social media by recording a short video highlighting how the Build Back Better framework will make a difference in your life. Post a direct-to-camera (selfie!) video on why the Build Back Better framework matters, don’t forget to include #BuildBackBetter!
+ Use your phone to film yourself vertically from the chest up.
+ Record in a well lit room or in front of a window. If possible, try to find a neutral wall or background.
+ Make sure you’re in a quiet area and avoid sources of background noise like cars, parks, bodies of water, etc.
+ Record less than 30 seconds. Don’t be afraid to record multiple takes to get a clean video!
+ Post them on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, ask your friends to uplift these posts, and don’t hesitate to flag them for us by DMing @massdems.
* After you film your selfie video, use the sample posts and creative assets below to keep spreading the word about the Build Back Better framework online:
