John — Growing up, Halloween was always one of my favorite holidays.
I’d read Goosebumps, watch shows like Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, and eventually move to 90’s teen horror films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
As a kid, the thrill of being scared was simply for fun. I was blissfully ignorant of the terrifying truths right here in the real world.
But now that I’m in my 30’s, I guess you could say that my fears have evolved into real-life concerns for the future of our country...
As a woman, I’m scared of losing the right to choose what to do with my own body.
As an Asian American, I’m scared of the rise in anti-Asian attacks and xenophobic hate perpetuated by Trump’s racist rhetoric.
As a daughter of parents in their 70’s, I’m scared of far-right conspiracists who refuse to listen to science when it comes to coronavirus vaccinations and who ignore the risks that elderly people face if a major breakout were to occur.
And I know that I’m not alone. Far too many Americans are living in fear — fear of not making ends meet, fear of gun violence, fear of not being able to access healthcare, fear of police brutality, and so much more.
There are so many very real and frightening things happening every single day. And although we can’t cast a magic spell like the Sanderson Sisters to banish these worries and struggles away, we can take action in other meaningful ways.
That’s why I joined Barrier To Entry PAC. Because I’m genuinely scared that if we don’t do something to build a government that reflects our values with leaders who will fight to protect us, things will only get worse.
So today, before the clock strikes twelve at midnight, I’m asking you to donate anything you can to help get us to the finish line and raise the remaining $1,492 that we need to hit our urgent goal. Let’s be fearless and take bold action together. Donate now >>
