Voices of the Future is a chance for the next generation of young Americans to set a policy agenda for the nation. We want you to be part of it! 

This event is designed to capture perspectives of a diverse group of young people, between the ages of 18-29, when they learn about and discuss some of the nation’s most pressing public policy issues.

The event will use a structured deliberation model based on Deliberative Polling ([link removed]) .

** Academy Receives Major Gift from Joan & Irwin Jacobs to Advance Democracy in America
------------------------------------------------------------
The American Academy of Arts & Sciences has received a $5 million gift from pioneering engineer, business leader, and philanthropist Irwin Jacobs and his wife Joan. The American Academy was founded in 1780 to honor excellence and engage leaders from across disciplines, professions, and perspectives to address major challenges. Jacobs, elected in 2001, directed this gift to the Academy’s work to reinvent American democracy.

** Discussion on Voting Rights in America

Miles Rapoport, Commission member and Senior Practice Fellow in American Democracy at the Harvard Kennedy School Ash Center ([link removed]) , moderated a panel discussing Two Americas Emerging: Voting Rights in the States. A Voting Rights Lab tracking report ([link removed]) as of September 13th identifies the following:
* 27 states representing 70 million voters have passed laws to expand voting opportunities
* 13 states with 55 million people have passed sharply restrictive legislation

** Introducing New Members of the Our Common Purpose Team
------------------------------------------------------------

Jessica Lieberman (mailto:[email protected]) , Program Officer for American Institutions, Society, and the Public Good
Prior to joining the Academy, Jessica was a Senior Campaign Advisor at New Politics, where she trained and advised military veterans and national service alumni running for elected office at the federal, state, and local levels. She also previously managed the campaigns of state and local candidates in Massachusetts, including the 2018 Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor, and practiced law for nine years at a large national law firm. She has a master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, a J.D. from Boston College Law School, and a B.A. from Tufts University.

Abhishek Raman (mailto:[email protected]) , Program Officer for American Institutions, Society, and the Public Good
Abhishek is passionate about diversity and inclusion, civic engagement, and developing programs and processes to engage stakeholders in social change. At heart, he is a storyteller, who enjoys helping people and organizations to move from possible to actual. Abhishek's professional career has focused on strengthening democratic processes and institutions and ensuring historically excluded communities have meaningful influence in our democracy. Abhishek holds a B.A in Sociology and Government from Clark University and a Master of Divinity from Harvard University.

Holly Roy (mailto:[email protected]) , Program Associate for American Institutions, Society, and the Public Good
Prior to joining the Academy, Holly worked at a number of nonprofit and higher education organizations, including the North American Family Institute and Compassion International.  She studied Psychology and Health Science at Corban University.
