Remember those days when you went on a long run, contorted yourself through a 90-minute yoga class, crushed a rec soccer game, and then hit the sauna — all in a weekend? What a dream. Conversely, a parent’s relationship with exercise and fitness is less fun and more… functional. There’s still joy to be found in a good workout, but for a time-constrained parent much of that joy is in its efficiency, the bang for the buck. This is why core strength is a parent’s best friend. It’s the best way to work the total body strength and athleticism you need — to drag a crying kid for 10 blocks, to toss your laughing toddler into the air, to run beside your five-year-old as they wobble on the sidewalk on two wheels. What better reason for a good workout is there?

Parenting Advice from Dune
Looking for an excuse to see Dune — or to see it again? Well, there are some excellent parenting lessons in the book and movie. So count a rewatch (and re-read) as essential parental homework.

Lesson 1: You gotta get real with your kids.
“The truth could be worse than he imagines, but even dangerous facts are valuable if you’ve been trained to deal with them. And there’s one place where nothing has been spared for my son — dealing with dangerous facts.”
Lesson 2: Our kids will be disappointed when we make mistakes.
“There is probably no more terrible instant of enlightenment than the one in which you discover your father is a man — with human flesh.”
Lesson 3: Home is togetherness.
“Parting with people is a sadness. A place is just a place.”
