After the Housing Bubble and Crash of 2008, Gov. Brown killed California’s major funding that poured billions into housing for low-income families.
After the funding was killed in 2011, Californians lost $15B in affordable housing the state would have provided for by now.
California has never come close to making up for that. Lawmakers have passed more than 80 housing laws since 2017. Just 2 of those laws provide affordable housing.
Gov. Newsom has earmarked major federal funds, that California received to recover from COVID, for affordable housing. We applaud his decision.
