— IN THE PAST WEEK —

Dear Neighbors,

As we near the holiday season it is good to reflect on the progress we have
made to return our lives to normalcy in the past year and practice
gratitude to celebrate those who we truly cherish in our lives.

As we continue our work to stop the spread of COVID-19, please remember: by
wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, looking after our seniors and
most vulnerable neighbors, and getting vaccinated we can continue to stay
well and overcome this pandemic.

Please find below the latest news and resources to stay informed.
Thank you and stay well,
Council Member Paul Vallone

Council Member Vallone Announces

$4.5 Million to Renovate College Point Fields

Over $10 Million Secured Over 8 Years

Council Member Paul A. Vallone, Queens Parks Commissioner Michael Dockett,
local civic leaders came together to announce a new capital project that
will reconstruct a portion of College Point Fields baseball diamond into a
grass soccer field and reconstruct sidewalks, improve drainage in the area,
and plant new grass. The Council Member was able to secure $4.5 million in
conjunction with Council Speaker Corey Johnson. The portion of the field
that will be renovated is the College Point Baseball Field near Ulmer
Street and 26th Avenue in College Point.

The demand for soccer fields in our district and in the city as a whole has
grown in recent years, and this project will make College Point a
destination for soccer clubs throughout Queens. This project will also
reconstruct the sidewalks adjacent to the fields and improve the paving of
the area along with some much needed tree maintenance and pruning.

This project follows a number of projects that have transformed the park
into a premier sports center for our community and Queens as a whole.
Council Member Vallone and Mayor de Blasio allocated over $7 million for a
state of the art football field that is currently under construction and is
slated to be completed later this year. The Council Member and Borough
President’s office also secured $2.8 million to construct sports and
security lighting for the College Point Fields.

"I am grateful to the Speaker and the Borough President for their generous
investments in College Point," said Council Member Paul A. Vallone. "This
new field will alleviate the current long waits for soccer field permits in
our district, and all investments made during my term have transformed the
park for decades to come. "

"I want to thank Council Member Vallone for his strong advocacy and
partnership on securing $4.5 million in this Fiscal Year to renovate the
College Point Fields. As we emerge from the pandemic, the Council will
continue supporting our parks so they can be a place of healing and
sanctuary for all New Yorkers," said Council Speaker Corey Johnson.

""Coastal Preservation Network is grateful to Councilman Vallone for
securing this generous investment in College Point's parks, and to Parks
Dept. leadership for their hard work in creating these plans. These
football and soccer fields will be a wonderful addition to the community at
a time when there's a huge and growing demand for open space.” said Kat
Cervino of the Coastal Preservation Network, “The fields at this site were
terrible dustbowls - little more than dirt - back in the '70s. It is
fantastic to see the dramatic improvements that continue to take place!"

Vallone Sponsors Annual Fort Totten Halloween Fun Evening

On Saturday October 23, Council Member Vallone sponsored the annual Fort
Totten Halloween Fun Evening along with the NYPD, Parks, and the Center for
the Women of New York. The event featured NYPD's famous haunted house, arts
and crafts, and puppet shows. This event was a welcome celebration of the
fall season and a great opportunity to celebrate halloween with friends and
family!

"I am so glad that we are able to come together to celebrate Halloween
again as a community as our city continues healing from the last 2 years"
said Council Member Vallone, "I am grateful as I reflect on the past year,
and excited to see where we are next year!"

College Point Residents Organize Fundraiser to Deliver Meals

As our City continues to battle the effects of COVID-19, Northeast Queens
residents continue to organize and offer a helping hand. College Point
residents Jennifer Shannon, Cathy Shannon, James & Kathryn Cervino, and
Margaret Loughlin have stepped up and launched a fundraiser to help College
Point residents who are in need of food.

Organizers write: "We have been going strong throughout the summer, helping
to keep the food pantry alive at First Reformed Church in CP. Thanks to
generous donations from the community, businesses, and city partners, we
have been helping the community throughout these difficult Covid
times...Our focus has now fully shifted from thanking workers, which was a
wonderful initiative, to supporting the food pantry."

I was proud to contribute to this local effort. Please offer a helping hand
if you are able!
