Today with my family beside me on the steps of the home where I was born, the same home in which my grandparents raised my father, I announced my candidacy for Attorney General of the District of Columbia.
Thurgood Marshall told us, “Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out.”
We see too much that is wrong, unequal and unjust. Too many people struggle. Too many people see no pathway to opportunity. Too many people cheat the system at the expense of our most vulnerable residents, our working families, and those with the greatest needs.
My family, my neighbors and the residents of Ward 5 -- who I have had the privilege of serving since 2012 -- know my work ethic and commitment to our city.
Today, with our campaign for Attorney General, we begin reaching out to those people who do not yet know me. We are embarking on a conversation with residents across the city. A conversation about justice, fairness, economic security and opportunity.

I am running because I love our city and the people who call it home. As your next Attorney General I will work relentlessly to protect you. I will ensure fairness and justice for all. I will stand up to powerful interests and hold to account anyone who takes advantage of vulnerable residents.
Our campaign is people powered. We only accept contributions from individuals; no PACs, corporations or special interests.
And, our commitment to ending the influence of big money in local elections qualifies us to participate in the DC Fair Elections Program. What does that mean? Contributions from District residents are multiplied 5-to-1. Your $10 will be matched with $50 and ultimately worth $60. The maximum donation per individual is $200; that adds up to $1,200!
Please make a contribution today. ([link removed])
There are many issues before us. Many challenges, too. When we work together and are unified in confronting injustice, when we demand nothing less than racial equity, when we stand united as equal participants in this great Democracy, we cannot be defeated. Together, we will rise.
